Free Advertising Techniques for Getting Traffic

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Ok, so I feel a little silly using these free advertising forum sites. But the fact is, I have discovered that they really do bring in regular traffic and sometimes sales and clicks as well.

Many of these classified ads sites get tons of traffic. So if you get in the habit of posting to them regularly, you ads will certainly at least get seen, and you just might be a little shocked at the results.

Other than writing killer ad copy, there are no big secrets to making it work, but here are a few little tricks I use to maxmize my results:

First of all, if the forum allows it, I always make a “mega-thread.” This just means that I make a thread with one of my ads in it, and then I keep coming back and replying to that same thread over and over again with the same ad or a similar one. This automatically sends it to the top of the forum which is where you ads really get seen. On top of that, this type of thread will amass the most views and contain the most replies as compared with the plain old regular threads. It then has the appearance of great popularity.

Another thing I do is always give my own threads a five-star rating which provides instant credibility.

And lastly, I also reply to popular threads that others have posted using my own ads and gaining even more exposure.

I find that the two main keys to success when posting to free ads forums is to use great ad copy and to just be consistent and keep coming back to post my ads whenever I get the chance. Another cool thing is that there is forum posting software on the market that automates the whole process. Otherwise it can be a little boring and tedious. However, if you don’t want to use software to post ads, you can used tabs in your browser and keeps a bunch of tabs open with all of your forums.

I also post to the free classfieds sites along with the free ads forums that I post to. Again a few of these classifieds sites also have big traffic. They might as well be looking at your advertisement.

There’s something else worth considering here as well. These forums and classifieds sites count for backlinks when it comes to search engine optimization. These are not necessarily the most high-value links you can get of course, but they sure beat having no backlinks when your site is new or you are just getting started. The bigger ones seem to get spidered constantly. So using anchors with good keywords for your links can’t hurt a bit.

Though I haven’t tried this last idea yet myself, I really think it may work out well. If you were to find success with some of your ads, you could then map out a little system and outsource the whole thing. Not only would you dominate the free advertising sites, but you’d free up your precious time as well. There’s a lot of dirt-cheap freelancers and virtual assistants around. Well it’s something to consider anyway.
